Open Space Committee Minutes 12/18/04
 MINUTES

Open Space Committee                                    January 19, 2005 / 7:30 pm
Present:        Judy Brainerd, Glen Collins, Laura Freeman, Sue Haley, Keith Johnson,
Dave Read and  Toni Stoker.

Approval of Meeting Minutes
MOTION: Dave moved and Glen seconded to approve the December 18, 2004 meeting minutes.
                   APPROVED.

Land Acquisition
Hatch
The Hatch property has been purchased.
Mumford
The Mumford property has not been closed on yet. The Mumfords need to obtain some signatures from the neighbors first.
Harris
Judy wrote a letter to the owners of the Harris property (the small piece of property on the Rock Harbor side of Dyer Prence Road). They have decided not to sell the property right now and are re-upping their 61B status for another two years.
Schneider
There does not seem to be a lot of interest in this property (an empty piece of land on the northeast side of Locust Road near the bike trail) from the Bikeways Committee or the BOS.
Saunders
The Saunders property  is a small parcel on Herringbrook that would provide access to Herring Pond and is adjacent to the bike trail.
MOTION: Glen moved and Dave seconded that the Open Space Committee should write a letter to the owners inquiring as to whether they would be willing to sell this property to the Town. APPROVED.
Judy will write the letter.
Daniels
Discussion ensued with respect to this property. It was decided that this property would be a good candidate for a CPA purchase.
Open Space Management:
Wiley Park Bridge
Laura is organizing a survey of the area where the bridge will go for mid-February. Glen and Keith will delineate the wetland resource areas prior to the topographic survey.
Signage
There is a large sign ready to be installed for the glacial ponds park, but it can’t be installed until the Mumford property is purchased.
Old Business:
Town web site
Natural Resources  now has the ability to update the Open Space Page themselves. Maps of the open space parcels will go up on the page.
1651 Forest
Loretta replied to Judy’s letter to the Friends saying that the Norway Maple will be removed in the spring, the hose will be removed and there is a written policy now stating that there shall be two people per tree when there are tree plantings in an effort to avoid forming social trails. Discussion ensued with respect to the formation of social trails. It was agreed that defining the real trail with logs and mulch would help.
Conservation Commission
Glen said there is nothing new or different to report.

Next Meeting:   Our next open space meeting will be February 23, 2005 at 7:30 pm
MOTION:         Dave made a motion to adjourn. Sue Haley seconded.  APPROVED unanimously.
Adjourned at 8:20 pm

Respectfully submitted by Laura Freeman
